Components Of A Backhoe Loader

A backhoe loader consists of: a powertrain, a loader, and an excavator. Each machine is designed for a specific type of work. On a typical construction site, an excavator operator will need to use all three components to get the job done. [1]
Powertrain
The heart of a backhoe loader is the powertrain. The powertrain of a backhoe loader is designed to handle rough terrain. It has a powerful turbocharged diesel engine, large deep-tooth tires, and a cab with driver controls (steering, brakes, etc.). [1]
Loader
The loader is assembled at the front of the machine, while the excavator is assembled at the back. These two components provide completely different functions. A loader can perform a variety of different tasks. In many applications, you can think of it as a large, powerful dustpan or coffee scoop. It is not used for digging, but is mainly used to pick up and move large amounts of loose material. It can also be used to push dirt like a plow or to smooth the ground like a knife spreading butter on bread. The operator can control the loader while driving the tractor. [1]
Excavator
The excavator is the primary tool of a backhoe loader. It can be used to dig through dense, hard material (often soil) or to lift heavy objects (such as sewer box culverts). The excavator can then lift these materials and deposit them on the side of the hole. In simple terms, an excavator is a huge, extremely powerful arm or finger that consists of three parts: the boom, the stick, and the bucket. [1]
Stabilizer feet
Other additional parts typically found on backhoe loaders include two stabilizer feet behind the rear wheels. These feet are vital to the operation of the backhoe. The feet absorb the impact of the weight as the backhoe digs. Without the stabilizer feet, the weight of a heavy load or the downward force of digging would damage the wheels and tires, and the entire tractor would bounce constantly. The stabilizer feet keep the tractor stable and minimize the impact of the backhoe digging. The stabilizer feet also secure the tractor so that it does not slide into a ditch or hole.
